When Should I Start Treatment?
The best time to start treatment is different for everyone. For most people, we try to time your first session right before ovulation. If you’re undergoing IVF or a similar procedure, you can start a month or two before your procedure date. It’s best to continue treatment through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
How Safe is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is extremely safe. There is hardly any risk associated with acupuncture for fertility. We only ask you to let us know if you are on any blood thinners or anticoagulants.
Is the Treatment Painful?
Treatment is painless for almost everyone because of the extremely small needles. If you feel anything, most patients compare the sensation to a mosquito bite. However, if you experience any pain, let your doctor know to avoid that area.
What Can I Expect During My Appointment?
We begin with a free consultation. Our staff will collect your medical history to understand your experiences with fertility and your overall goals.
Before your session begins, a physician performs a chiropractic adjustment. They will then lead you to a warm, relaxing room, where you’ll receive 15 to 20 therapeutic needles. After you’ve rested for 15 minutes, we remove the needles and check how your body responded to the process.
What Should I Know Before and After My Appointment?
We recommend dressing in comfortable clothes for your appointment. Being warm will aid your body’s blood flow. Make sure to hydrate before and after your appointment. Dehydration can leave you sore after a chiropractic adjustment, and water will aid in your body’s natural healing.
How Often Should I Receive Acupuncture?
To maximize fertility, we recommend doing three treatments around ovulation–three times per cycle. If you’re struggling with increased stress or having a procedure like IVF, we encourage weekly visits.
Do I Continue Treatment After Pregnancy?
You should continue treatment through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, after which it’s up to you whether you continue. Prolonged treatment isn’t necessary for everyone, though it can help you manage stress levels. If you choose to continue acupuncture for any future pregnancies, we are always happy to help.
Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture?
Plenty of insurance plans cover acupuncture. The best way to find out is to call your provider. Some plans will only cover acupuncture with a chiropractic adjustment, which is why we start every appointment with one.
